It all began a few years ago with the idea of living and working abroad for a while. We wanted to give our children the opportunity to learn a second language and experience something extraordinary as a family. Exploring new environments, unique wildlife, diverse culinary traditions, meeting people from around the world, navigating cultural differences, and living a life outside the traditional. We always agreed that if it didn’t work out, we could always move back home. So, why not give it a try?
After receiving a job offer in the USA, our decision was made. We were in agreement: We’re diving into the unknown! After countless hours spent on visa preparations, we stood early one Saturday morning, ready for new adventures.
At Landvetter Airport, we were greeted by the early morning anticipation. With our luggage ready to be checked in, it felt like we were finally on our way. But wait, what happened to the nice stroller we bought especially for the trip? Apparently, it was too large to be classified as carry-on luggage. So much for that idea!

The flight from Landvetter to Charleston was no short walk. We had two layovers, in Schiphol and Newark, before reaching our final destination: Charleston!

Before our journey, we tried to plan how to keep the kids entertained during the long flight hours. We bought activity books and colored pencils, but it turned out Olle was determined to challenge us in the classic game of tic-tac-toe during the complete flight. Definitely handy to spend time and he likely must have set some sort of record with his 100 rounds!

Finally, around 9 PM, we landed in Charleston. With our luggage packed to the brim and the kids sleeping in our arms, we arrived at the Home2 Suites hotel on Daniel Island, ready for the next day.
Join us on our journey as we explore the American South and create new memories together!
